"Scripture Alone"

Explain the concept of "Sola Scriptura" and inerrancy of Scripture.

"Sola Scriptura" is a Latin phrase. To find out what it means, let us look at what each individual word translates to.

We can quite easily make a guess on what "Scriptura" means. If you said, "Scriptures", then you're pretty accurate! It actually translates to "writings", but refers to the Scriptures.
"Sola" as a noun, can be translated to "bottom", "ground" and "floor". As a verb however, it carries the meaning of "single", "alone", "having no companion" and "unique".
Put together then, we get "Scriptures Alone".

"Sola Scriptura" is a Christian doctrine that the Bible alone is authoritative for the Christian faith. It is complete, infallibale and inerrant, and contains all necessary knowledge for salvation and holiness. "Sola Scriptura" was a rallying cry of the Protestant Reformation against the rule and practices of the Roman Catholic Church of the time.

Inerrancy in Christianity is another doctrine that holds the Bible to be accurate and without error. Most Evangelical Christian denominations hold to this teaching.

You have given the definition of "Sola Scriptura" but nothing much of certainty as to why the Scriptures are inerrant. Statements without support are not convincing explanation of the concept. To help you, can you begin to explain with conviction as to why it is a Christian doctrine that the Scriptures are inerrant using my argument below?

The term "inerrancy" means to be without error. When applied to the Bible, it normally means that the text as originally written in the author's autograph copy was free of error. A closely related belief is inspiration" -- the concept that God guided the authors of the Bible to write their books free of mistakes. Inspiration implies inerrancy. Since God is traditionally viewed as omniscient, omnipotent and free of error, God could hardly inspire the authors to write falsehoods.

But nevertheless the authors are indeed mere mortal imperfect human beings thus the real possiblity of making errors despite being divinely inspired. Just because God who inspires the authors is perfect does not make the authors and their writings without errors.

Just as God is holy does not make you without mistakes, the same goes with the authors. Because the truth remains that the authors are human beings who can make mistakes, their writings could contain error thus the Bible of their writings cannot be proven as being inerrant.

You cannot prove the inerrancy of the Bible...

Hi
I like the picture, it reminds me of St. Petersburg. I notice you like to use the word 'guess.' In life, we may have many guesses or assumptions but not with scriputre. Either it is true, not pretty true but the truth and it will satnd alone. Not need for man to defend it. Man needs to believe it is the truth and take God as his word and applied it. One thing from expereince, pls know what and what God wants you to do precisely, no guessing, be in the right place at the right time.

You mentioned, “inerrancy in Christianity is another doctrine that holds the Bible to be accurate and without error.” How do you know the Bible is complete, infallible and inerrant, and contains all necessary knowledge for salvation and holiness?
