Who Are You, God?

"If God exists, what would be the description or idea of God?"

God does exist. He must. Scientists and evolutionists who try to explain him away will soon discover or at least admit (if they are honest enough) that their theories must arrive at an uncaused cause. Let me explain.

In a nutshell, evolutionists say that complex organisms (like ourselves) are the result of evolution from simpler life forms (such as a single-cell amoeba). They continue to trace further backward, breaking simple forms to even simpler forms. Not too long ago, the tiniest particle ever thought possible was the atom. But even then, the atom was split open to contain neutrons, protons and electrons. More recently, the proton was discovered to contain quarks. Perhaps science will continue to discover smaller and smaller particles, but the one fact they cannot escape, is that all matter must come from something. From my point of view, that something is God.

So assuming that God does exist, what is He like? History paints God in many pictures. He is a heavenly being, rests on clouds, controls weather and the elements, even flanked by other demi-gods. Greek and even Asian mythology describes him (or them in this case) to be subject to mood swings and even bound by certain limitations.

Our idea of God is shaped by our worldviews. Even the Christian worldview will see God as either the jealous, angry, judging deity of the Old Testament, or the gentle, loving and obligated father of the Gospels. The problem with our situation is that He cannot be one without being the other. God is one, and the Scriptures tells us that He is and always will remain the same (Heb 13:8). So, will the real God please stand up?

We must be careful in allowing different worldviews to project ideas into our understanding of who God is. The real God is the one revealed to us through the Bible. Unless we study it and know it well, we don't know our God well.

Besides the argument from creation, we can see that morality in our universe implies that there must be a moral Lawgiver. Because of God's existence, we can discern right from wrong.

I think how we interpret the Bible is important to help us understand more of the "real God" and also how we see God's attributes in different circumstances we face.

Hi all!
Thanks for leaving your comments!
I agree with you Ps Tim, evidence of God is available all around us.

Irene, I agree. That's why it's also so important to know "how" to correctly interpret the Bible, and not make it say whatever we want to hear! :)

Hi Rachel, glad to hear it! Haha! Thanks all for dropping by!

I like your title - "WHO", i.e. the character. I am more keen to know who God is -- the character in the person than the HOW/WHAT -- the physical. And I guess we will know the WHO if we continue to pore through the pages of the Bible! :-) Bible Reading Challenge comes in handy here!

Yes, God is love, is just, is jealous, is powerful and yet gentle.

He is so many things to us, that we may never fully discover all of His attributes. However, He leaves us many clues for us to discover through His word.

God bless!

Scientist and evolutionist are intelligent human being but when they choose not to acknowledge God in its existence in creation etc...then they think they are intellgent but actually not so...they confuse themselves thus ignorance of God lead them to stupidity. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Got it.

hahaha! i love the poster.. god is a republican! I agree...many times the image of God is not really nicely painted by us to others, maybe its caused by us not really understanding God enough. Not to say that we have to paint the perfect God's image picture into new believers or even anyone.. but you know what i mean right? hmmm...guess its time to buck up even for me.. hehehe!

"The real God is the one revealed to us through the Bible. "

But God does reveal himself to those who do not know Him, and not necessary using the Bible alone and there are people who are without Bibles.

What do u think?

So what is your personal view about God?

Thanks Betty and Jap for dropping by with your comments! Haha! Yeah, I thought the poster was funny too! I thought it strange that not more people mentioned it. Hee.

Hi Dorcas! Yes, you're right, God also reveals himself to people who do not know the Bible. Perhaps what I meant is a deeper knowledge and understanding of God, not just a general revelation of himself.

Hello Andrew! You caught me! Haha! To be honest, that was the point I was trying to avoid! I will have to confess that I have not fully known nor understood Him yet (who has, this side of death?)

But if I must, then physically, I would describe Him as a Royal Father, with Love and Just as His main characteristics, and certainly One who practices a lot of Grace and Mercy! Heh.

Not a perfect answer, I know, but I'm still processing.

Thanks everyone for commenting! God bless!
